A cool Autumn evening had the sun dipping below the horizon a lot earlier than our summer-minds were expecting. But the slight chill in the air wasn’t going to dampen the excitement of the evening, to celebrate God’s faithfulness through 60 years of Uncle Rashid’s life.
From the time Uncle Rashid walked in accompanied by applause, it was obvious that there was more to this 60th than what was expected. With a funky beat as their soundtrack, people took to the dancefloor and raised their hands, singing along in saying “Thank You” to the Lord for His goodness..
Speech after speech after speech honoured Uncle Rashid’s integrity, his love for his family, success in business and steadfastness in his friendships. This was against the backdrop of him growing up in the rough poor township of Westbury in Johannesburg (pronounced “Westrrren” by the locals :-)). What he has achieved is not a small accomplishment in anyone’s books. And yet, Uncle Rashid took the opportunity not to point to himself and his achievements, but to point upwards to the One Who made it all possible.
We at Meek Media believe that what happened to Uncle Rashid in transforming his life, can happen to ANYone. From the moment when we give our lives over to Jesus Christ, He begins to change us, to make us mirror Him. And the extent to which we change, is proportional to the extent to which we give Him control.

19-21 What actually took place is this: I tried keeping rules and working my head off to please God, and it didn’t work. So I quit being a “law man” so that I could be God’s man. Christ’s life showed me how, and enabled me to do it. I identified myself completely with him. Indeed, I have been crucified with Christ. My ego is no longer central. It is no longer important that I appear righteous before you or have your good opinion, and I am no longer driven to impress God. Christ lives in me. The life you see me living is not “mine,” but it is lived by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. I am not going to go back on that.
